The color, design and feel of a carpet grab customer’s attention when looking to buy, but what’s behind the fibers is just as important.
When it comes to how well a carpet will perform over time, customer should consider the backing, according to the trade publication Floor Covering Weekly. Wrinkling and puckering can occur if the two layers of backing, the primary and secondary layers of polypropylene, separate for any reason.
One way to prevent that is by choosing the “lay flat, stay flat” enhanced backing called Wrinkle guard, says Gary Fisher, executinve vice president of marketing the Beaulieu of America, which is offering Wrinkle Guard on its new Bliss Indulgence line. Fisher told FCW, “Wrinkle Guard is very dense and more like a primary backing than a secondary backing with excellent dimensional stability. The density makes it less likely to ever wrinkle and need a restretch.
